April 2, 2025—The Cobb County School District continues to excel in education, with 44 of its schools honored as "Georgia Math Leaders" by Georgia State School Superintendent Richard Woods. This prestigious recognition highlights these schools' outstanding math achievement and leadership in fostering student success.

Superintendent Woods visited Smitha Middle School to personally congratulate the 44 schools for their exceptional contributions to math education. This recognition event followed a similar ceremony in the fall when Cobb schools were celebrated for their achievements in literacy.

Superintendent Woods emphasized the importance of growth in student achievement, saying, "The banners and ribbons are designed to recognize growth. Growth is extremely important. We may not be at the promised land of proficiency yet, but it’s important to acknowledge that we are moving in the right direction.”

The state school superintendent also praised the collective effort of all school staff—teachers, administrators, cafeteria workers, custodians, and all support staff—who contribute to creating an environment where students can thrive.
