November 6, 2025 — The 2025 South Cobb Eagle Volleyball team made history this season by advancing to Day 2 of the GHSA State Qualifying Tournament. This incredible milestone is something that has not been done at South Cobb High School in almost 25 years!

The scrappy Lady Eagles battled back from a loss to Paulding County in the early game of the region tournament to tally a win over Osborne High School. This put them in position for a rematch with Paulding. The South Cobb Eagles continued their momentum and avenged the earlier loss to advance to Day 2 against Pebblebrook High School. Although they were eliminated by the Falcons, the South Cobb ladies proved to themselves and those watching that this year's team set a new standard for Eagle Volleyball.

The team displayed incredible heart, discipline, and mental toughness to push through and earn their spot. Despite facing adversity due to injuries, they rallied to beat Osborne and Paulding County in back-to-back matches. Mental toughness was a key lesson this season, and the Lady Eagles rose to the challenge, showing that their hard work paid off when it mattered the most.

Samira Washington Region Player of the YearIn another exciting accomplishment, Samira Washington also earned the recognition as South Cobb's first-ever Region Player of the Year in Volleyball. Sam was a lightning rod of encouragement and support for her team throughout the entire season. The South Cobb junior has three years of club and high school experience, and has built a reputation as a respectful and hardworking student-athlete.

Samira is a powerhouse, both on and off the court. She is a proud member of the National Honor Society, Beta Club, and the Chick-fil-A Youth Leadership Program, having completed more than 100 hours of community service, all while maintaining a 3.9 GPA. She also recently earned Cobb's Athlete of the Week!

Samira Washington"Even though she is 5-foot-8, she can jump out of the gym and is well over 6 feet tall when you add her vertical leap," explained her proud coach, Angela Fry. "Her explosiveness and volleyball IQ make her a game-changer every time she steps on the court. Samira represents everything we value in our program: discipline, heart, and perseverance. The future is bright for this standout student-athlete!"

Congratulations to South Cobb Volleyball and to Samira for an amazing season of many firsts! We know this is only the beginning for the Lady Eagles and we can't wait to see what's in store next season!
